Michael Werner, a Certified Orthotist, has been working in the field for more than 20 years, having worked his way toward certification largely through experience.
Werner worked for the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center for 10 years, first in St. Louis and later in Martinsburg, West Virginia. At the VA, Werner evaluated patients’ pathology and provided the proper Prosthetic appliances for them. While there, he received several awards recognizing his personal achievements, and introduced the fabrication of Semi Rigid Orthotics, Poly Propylene and Co-Polymer AFO’s to the Martinsburg Prosthetic Lab.
Werner sees an Orthotist’s job as “a real craft and art.” He is experienced in the fabrication, modification and repair of Custom Foot Orthotics, double upright Ankle/Foot Orthotics as well as the modification of shoes to comply with doctors’ prescriptions. He is also practiced as a Soft-Foot fitter, working with Corsets, Binders and the Compression Hose in addition to ankle, knee and wrist bracing. He is an expert in the Armfit Orthotic CAD/CAM System.
Leading up to his certification as an Orthotist, Werner attended Southwest Missouri State University, Meramec Community College and Shepherd University in West Virginia.
